We gathered in September at Newham's iconic Thames Barrier Park to celebrate all the ways we are woven together - through printing making, collaborative painting and weaving on giant looms. The two day art fest was the 2nd time we have done a large scale, free community process art gathering and it was joyous!
Waymakers worked with artist and fashion designer CJ Pidlaoan, multi-disciplinarian Maria Nakku to develop the idea of woven together. Our team was made up of 20 creatives, local young people - artists, fashion designers and illustrators from Newham. They brought their passion, energy and joy to the event. And they enjoyed getting messy and creating too!
We reached over 800 participants over 2 days, from ages 0 - 75. Parents, toddlers, children and passers by came to interact with the art work, collaborate and take home printed canvas bags and weaving boards. We saw people from every background! Biggest thank you to the children of Winsor Primary School and Waymakers Kids groups who came to have their own sessions too!
We then took all our beautiful works to the iconic Art in Docks, Galleons to showcase this collaborative work on Woven Together in October 2024.
We had 300 visitors over 2 days, more workshops and process art moments. Cardboard city was a hit!
This event wouldn't have been possible without the vote of the public and the support of People Powered Places! Thank you
